  • The Town of Remington is updating its Comprehensive Plan — our community’s long-range roadmap for growth, development, and quality of life. This page explains what a Comprehensive Plan is, why it matters, why we’re updating it now, how the process works, and how you can get involved.

    What Is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is the Town’s official policy document that guides decision-making for the next 10–20 years. It is not a zoning ordinance or a set of strict rules. Instead, it is a vision statement that outlines:

    • Where and how the Town should grow

    • Priorities for housing, transportation, parks, economic development, and public services

    • Strategies to protect what we value most — our small-town character, historic resources, and quality of life

Think of it as the Town’s “big-picture plan” that elected officials, the Planning Commission, and staff use when reviewing new development proposals, updating zoning rules, or planning capital projects.

What Is the Comprehensive Plan For?
    • It ensures decisions are consistent, forward-thinking, and reflect the community’s shared values.

    • It helps the Town qualify for state and federal grants.

    • It provides a clear framework so that growth (when it happens) supports — rather than overwhelms — Remington’s small-town feel.

    • It serves as the foundation for future updates to the Zoning Ordinance and other land-use regulations.

Why Are We Updating It Now?

Remington’s current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1997. Much has changed in nearly 30 years — our economy, housing needs, infrastructure challenges, and community priorities have evolved. Updating the plan gives us the opportunity to:

    • Revisit our vision for the future

    • Address current opportunities and challenges

    • Incorporate fresh community input

    • Make sure our policies support smart, sustainable growth while preserving what makes Remington special

The Town Council and Planning Commission are leading this effort so that Remington remains a vibrant, livable community for current and future residents.

    The Update Process

The Comprehensive Plan update follows a structured, transparent process:

    1. Community Engagement — Public meetings, surveys, and workshops to hear from residents, businesses, and stakeholders.

    2. Existing Conditions Analysis — Review of current trends in population, housing, economy, transportation, and more.

    3. Draft Plan Development — The Planning Commission works with a consultant (if applicable) to write the new plan based on community feedback.

    4. Public Review & Hearings — Multiple opportunities for residents to review drafts and provide comments.

    5. Adoption — The Planning Commission recommends the plan; Town Council adopts it (targeting April 2027).
